In November 2020, the D2 Center began offering tutoring and elective credit classes virtually to D2 Center students. Staff Specialist Jodie Martinez coordinates the curriculum and student participation for the elective credit classes—”Navigating Your Future” and an English elective. Jodie and certified English teacher Kathy Kocsis work together with students taking the English elective. Certified math teacher Terry Kocsis, Jodie Martinez, and both Career Navigators, John Moore and Bette Norton Ball, assist students with “Navigating Your Future,” which focuses on career exploration and postsecondary planning. Students utilize cell phones, email, and Microsoft Teams (for virtual meetings with teachers) to complete course work.
One-to-one virtual tutoring is available by request. In addition to the teachers assisting with elective credit classes, certified math teacher Jackie Thomas also works with students needing help with math. Students should contact their Youth Academic Navigator if they need help or want to take an elective credit class. As always, D2 Center Career Navigators are available to assist students with job searches, career exploration, and postsecondary planning. This service is also available to D2 Center students after they graduate from high school.
